This Is Derby is an exciting project for young people in Derby, led by Derby County Community Trust in collaboration with Derby Cultural Education Partnership and Derby Sport Forum. The project is funded by the Derby Opportunity Area fund via the Department for Education. We are offering a range of opportunities to take part in arts, sport and creative activities around the city. The activities are taking place in schools, community centres, youth clubs, cultural and sporting venues in Derby.
The activities are FREE, fun and designed to help young people aged 5 to 18 years to develop essential life skills. Skills such as confidence, motivation, resilience and communication are crucial to young people achieving their potential. Giving young people from all backgrounds a greater opportunity to develop these skills will support social mobility.
The programme has lots of opportunities for young people to lead and choose the activities which take place and to help design activities in their local community. This Is Derby will give young people a voice to make a change in their community and the confidence to feel that they can make a difference to their own lives and the way their community runs.
This Is Derby has been funded through Essential Life Skills funding from the Department for Education, as one of the 12 Opportunity Areas.
This website will be designed by young people over the coming months. They will be involved in every aspect of the website, including the content, interactive elements as well as the look and feel too. This will be the place to find out what’s on in your local area, for young people involved in the project to share what they’ve been doing and for them to tell the story of This Is Derby in their own words and pictures and most importantly have their say!
