A Brief Understanding of the Web-Team
Written by Tobi Wong, member of the #This Is Derby Web Team
Over the past few months the amazing web team (including myself) have been working hard to shape the website and how we, as young people, envision it. We’ve worked with very talented designers and web developers to bring our vision to life. And I’m sure I can speak for the whole team when I say we’re very proud of how it’s turned out.
Working with professionals helped us understand what a project of this scale requires and how it operates. It was nothing short of fascinating to learn about it. And believe me when I say every little detail on this site was carefully considered and discussed.
Unique people with different perspectives and ideas
Our team was full of unique people with different backgrounds, different ages, different passions, and most importantly, different perspectives and ideas. Everyone was so wonderfully driven to give their own input and by doing so putting a little bit of themselves in the site. We worked together, we worked separately, we worked in teams, we worked in, out, up, down, left, right. You name it, we did it. And working so freeform really allowed us to find out where we fit best in the team and what we did best. By the end of it not only did it feel like we had helped make something fantastic, but it also felt like we all took an invaluable amount of lessons and experiences away from it.
The future of Derby and it’s reputation really rests on the young people. Yet so many young people in Derby don’t typically get involved with their community usually due to the lack of information and easy access. Hopefully this is the start of a wonderful new future where it’s easier for young people to get involved, get out, socialise, learn, contribute, and even just have fun and be themselves!
I’m so glad I’ve been able to contribute to such a valuable resource for young people, and I’m so proud of our team for doing such an amazing job!
