SEND Boxing Hub at Allenton Boxing Club

The sessions are run by a DCCT staff member who is a level 2 ABA boxing coach and has experience working with in this area of young people. The sessions are based around non-contact boxing and fitness. Activities have varied from chair-based medicine ball exercise to raise awareness of some other disabilities. The young people attending have worked on body image and raising their self-esteem though these sessions, having increased their fitness level throughout with circuit training and skipping. The young people attending have worked on pushing themselves each week, setting different goals in the session and working hard to achieve them, whether this is being able to punch correctly or achieve a set number of different exercises.  Support staff have helped in the session and joined to and this has been a great benefit and help keep motivating the young people to continue to join in.

Skills learned/gained:

  • Increase in fitness
  • Body confidence
  • Self defence
  • Perseverance and determination

Billy – “The sessions have really help me control my aggression and temper, I always tried to set new goals at the session and enjoy when the support staff join in as it motivates me more some one to compete with. I now have taken up some boxing session outside of this one.”
